The photo is a tad blury, but you can still see our Christmas hats. Winnie & I have been wearing ours for every ride and Katie did a jumping lesson in one. We all love this Christmas season! Winnie's unschool came to the farm last week for pony rides, a big thank you to Kristina, Maddie & Molly for leading everyone around. This past weekend was sunny and around 60 degrees, which is my kind of weather! All the horses are nice & fuzzy and send out a big hello to you! |

' No Stirrup November' has been a huge success. I have not even ridden with a saddle except for 1 time this month, the other rides have all been bareback. The students are really enjoying the challenge too. For real! Check out the bareback photos below of the students.
I can't say that we've been enjoying the weather as much though. Some mornings have been frigid! I know one morning at breakfast it said 20 degrees and another morning said 27 degrees, and that's without the windchill. Winnie enjoyed still finding ice in the water troughs after lunch time though, and getting to break it up. After the frigid cold came some really big rains, and then yesterday we hit 70 degrees! Today dropped back to the low 50's and now it is raining again. ARGHHHH. Crazy, crazy, crazy Georgia weather. The horses have no clue as to what the temperature should be. But they are all drinking well and staying happy!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, only 2 days away. Enjoy your holiday!

I saw a FaceBook post stating that it is 'No stirrup November'. Who's up for the challenge??? Katie rode on Tuesday and she dropped her stirrups for half the ride. Winnie has been dropping her stirrups in her cool down laps, and she rode bareback yesterday & today. I rode Copper with a saddle with the stirrups removed on Monday, on Tuesday I rode him bareback, then on Wednesday I rode in the saddle with the removed stirrups on Spencer, and today I did a short bareback ride on Copper.
Who else is going to accept the challenge?

Happy November! It sure did start out with a frigid day. Our horses had to wear their sheets for the first time this season. But I did see that we will be back in the 70's soon. :-)

Guess it's been another few weeks since I last stopped by the website. Hello everyone!!
Things are great this fall, we are staying busy and enjoying barn life. Our last AAHJA local show is this weekend and soon after that it'll be time for Halloween.

Oh my!!! It's been almost a month since an update. I'll have to look back through my calendar to see what all we have been up to, but I knew I better update with at least something. Aubrey & Fly competed at the High Point show since our last update and won Champion!! Spencer & Kristina were able to compete in a flat class and won 2nd! This Saturday we are headed to the Spring Break show. Last week, Tommy & I took our anniversary trip (10 years!) to Las Vegas for a great vacation. A big thank you to Ryder, Kristina, Julianne, Katie , Claire, & Andrea for helping out while I was away. I will try to update more soon!

Yesterday we competed at the Four Seasons Farm AAHJA show. Aubrey rode Fly and won Reserve Champion in her division. She won a 1st in the first class, followed by a 5th and 2nd. Fly was fantastic and Aubrey rode marvelously! They looked great and made me very proud. Kristina rode around the show grounds on Spencer and he was 98% better than last time. We had some new ideas to try and they seemed to work. Hopefully he will continue to stay this good!
Some more new friends came out, a big welcome to Katie & Haleigh. And Maddie & Emily are going to give Wendy much needed attention as well as the horses at the barn.
We are off to a great fall around here. UGA football begins next weekend, so GO DAWGS!

School is pretty much back in session everywhere now. I miss the summer!!! BUT, with college starting up, I always hear from new friends who'd like to learn more about us. I enjoy meeting all these new horse crazy students! Recently I have met Sarah who moved into the house at our farm and she has gotten a ride in on Spencer. I also met Maddie & her roommate, and they are hoping to help with grooming & grazing. I've met Liz, and she rode both Spencer & Ben today. I also have some new friends who I'm e-mailing back & forth about coming to meet us.
Even though new students are heading my way, one of my students is heading off to college. Good Luck to Rebecca as she travels to Mississippi for school! We will all miss you!!! She had a great summer though because she did a 2 day horse show in Conyers with her own horse, and just this week she jumped courses on Ziggy. Hope to see you when you are home for the holidays!
Things around the farm are as great as always. We took a trip to Watson Mill State Park recently to ride the trails. The horses were fabulous and enjoyed doing something different but they were a bit agitated because pesky flies were biting their bellies. We'll bring fly spray next time! I rode Copper, Kristina rode Ben, and Julianne rode Spencer.
Next weekend we will travel to the AAHJA show. Aubrey will compete on Fly and Kristina is going to take Spencer again. Hopefully Spencer will remember to behave!

I realized that I forgot to mention in the last update that Aubrey had another lesson on Ziggy and she jumped her first crossrail! She did GREAT!

WHERE did JUNE go???? Did I really skip a whole month of updates?
I guess that just means that daily barn life didn't leave much time to play on the computer. I don't even know where I should begin, June was an awesome month.
Looking back it looks like Aubrey & Fly competed at the AAHJA show on May 25th. I remember ribbons being won and the canter going really well. The following weekend Aubrey & Fly competed in another horse show and they won reserve champion in their division. Also at that show, Rebecca showed her horse Teddy, after not showing since last fall. They did great for their first time back!
After that we jumped into the month of June and the fun of school being out for the summer. We started the month off with a 'summer stable morning' where we learned all about horse showing complete with a demonstration jumping ride by Kristina & Spencer. Later that week I had my AAHJA board of directors meeting and then the weekend started Vacation Bible School at our church, which the whole Epps' family takes part in. The following week the Epps' family took a vacation and this past week we all celebrated the 4th of July holiday. Lessons have been happening all throughout the month, regardless of vacations for everyone here and there. It's been quite busy with normal summer weather.
We also need a shout out to our newest rider and newest barn worker, Claire.
July is off to a great start! We head to a horse show this Saturday!

Oh, Wow! Has it really been almost a complete month since I have updated? I apologize to all of you!
May has been a FANTASTIC month. Tommy & I had a 2 night vacation to downtown Athens to start it off. We returned refreshed and jumped right into May. Winnie performed for 2 straight weekends in the Scooby Doo play and then school ended for almost everyone. The sun has been shining and the temperatures have been rising.
As for horsey things, Copper & I started off May by doing the Shakerag Hounds poker ride. Our new friends Bethany & Erin joined us for a wonderful morning of cantering across 100 acres. That same week, Winnie's Freedom to Grow Unschool Full-Time classmates came over to the farm to ride ponies on their last day of class. Bethany & Kristina volunteered their time to help me lead everyone around and even the teachers rode. The next weekend Copper went to the Winterville Marigold Festival and hung out like a super star. This morning we went to the AAHJA Show at Silverthorn where Aubrey & Fly competed in the Beginner flat division. They brought home 3 thirds! Next Saturday, the 2 of them will compete at the High Point farm AAHJA show. We also had our spring vet appointment last week and everyone passed with flying colors.
We had 2 special visitors this past week as well! Nancy was in town from Utah and was able to get 2 rides in on Ben. Misty looked us up through her previous trainers and came to see Immy after 10 years. She purchased Immy as a 3 year-old and gets the credit for all of Immy's training. We were blessed to have our special visitors spend time with us.
There were also many birthdays to celebrate. Immy, Fly, Copper, Wendy and Rebecca, Andrea, Maija, & Julianne all had birthdays. Rebecca graduated from high school and Julianne returned from Ocala for 3 weeks. Next she heads to Kentucky. Little Victoria visited us at the Winterville Marigold festival but she isn't very little anymore. She is almost as tall as me!
Have a magnificent Holiday and a great start to your summer!

Can't believe we snuck into April without an update to the website. WOW!
Guess we've just been enjoying our warm weather lately, especially the beautiful sunshine. The horses are really enjoying the new, fresh, spring grass coming in. Happy April everyone!

It was a beautiful weekend & 2 days. Sunny and 70 degrees!
As noted below, Magnum celebrated his 35th birthday on Friday. The next day, Aubrey took Immy to the first AAHJA show of the 2014 season and they competed in the Junior Beginner division. It was Aubrey's first time cantering at a show and only her 3rd time ever cantering on Immy. It was also Aubrey's first time trotting laps in a group situation. Both of them were rockstars and they picked up two 2nds and one 3rd!
Sunday was a beautiful day and Monday was Winnie's 7th birthday. Tuesday was gorgeous too and we welcomed a new rider to our team, Bliss. Tuesday also brought us Bella back for a lesson after the terrible weather had kept her away. This week is going great!

Happy March! I'm hoping March brings us some warm weather and it sticks around. March is also exciting because our local AAHJA shows start in March, and we have 3 birthdays in our family. MAGNUM turns 35, Winnie turns 7, and Westley turns 17.I love the month of March!
Check out the above tab 'students' for some photos from the past week or so.
