My beautiful weather has turned to rain! Hopefully it'll bring us lots of summer grass!
Winnie won 2 firsts and 2 sevenths at her equestrian vaulting competition this past weekend. We are hoping to show this Saturday at the AAHJA show, but it might be re-scheduled due to all of this rain.

Happy April & Happy Easter (a day early).
March ended up really well, with our first AAHJA show of the season being a success! I was quite nervous since it was a new season and our riders had moved up a level. But they both did great! Aubrey competed on Bradley, which was a last minute decision, and she even cantered some crossrails for her very first time ever! Winnie competed on Fly and did her first ever (showing) trotting in a group, as well as her first time (showing) cantering one at a time. Thanks to all of the team members who came out to support us and/ or help in some way: Andrea, Juli, Maddie, Emily, Kristina, Cathy, Michele & Maija. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Looks like my last post mentioned crossing some fingers for the first horse show. Well, it didn't work, because the rain came and canceled the show. But Sun, Mon, Tues, & yesterday were beautiful, warm days again; and we rode every day. Today is a rather ugly 49 degrees and rain, but we are still hoping to make a fun type show on Saturday. Fingers crossed again!

I was correct! Just like I mentioned below, March is spring time to me. Magnum had a BEAUTIFUL day for his birthday and Winnie had a 77 degree day for hers. March can be awesome! I think both the horses and me, are sooooooo much happier in this weather. I love it! Now, hopefully the weather holds as we approach our first local horse show on Saturday. Fingers crossed!

Welcome to March! I love the month of March because Magnum's birthday is in March. He will be turning 36 years old on Saturday. I also love March because Winnie's birthday is 3 days after Magnum's. Another reason is because on the 21st, it marks 32 years of when we purchased Magnum. And.... Westley's birthday is also March 21st. March also makes me think of spring time, and tomorrow will hold true to that by hopefully reaching 65 degrees, where as today was a wet 45 degrees.
February was so wet, or rainy, or frozen, or sleeting, or something that we only worked the horses 12 days out of 28. That gave them 16 days off this month. 16!!! I am ready for March!!!

If this wild weather keeps up, I'm going to need a different job! It's hard to teach lessons and work horses when the arena footing is either frozen, being rained on, or it's sloshy mud. Jeez. I think we have only been able to ride the horses on Saturdays for the past 3 weeks. I miss seeing my clients all week long! But tomorrow is Saturday and I know I will see at least 4 of you tomorrow!

What a CRAZY week it is has been because of the weather. WOW!
On Monday they talked about some possible icing, but I didn't really think it would happen. I mean, yes, it was raining, but the temp's were above freezing. You can imagine how shocked I was then, when BEFORE dark and only 35 degrees, I found ICE on the fence lines & gates. ICE! And it was above freezing! The rest of the week wasn't any better. Frozen water troughs that re-freeze only a few hours later, frozen stall water buckets, temperatures at 16 degrees, high winds, YUCK! But tomorrow we are getting near 55 and we will finally ride again. YAY!!!!

Yesterday was a pretty big roller coaster kind of day. I started the morning off extra early because I knew where I had to go and what exactly had to be done, before the normal schedule of events were tackled. So after I fed breakfast early in the cold, I headed home and packed up Winnie & Lucky for our very last trip to the vet. The dreaded day had arrived, where we knew his tough, fighting, loving little body could take no more. With happy memories and tons of tears, we said our goodbyes to our loved one.
The day continued as planned (first with an added ice cream breakfast to mask our sadness) with a trip to the feed store followed by teaching lessons in the beautiful sunshine. Going home to our empty house in the late afternoon was a bit difficult and painful, but we are hanging in there. We really loved our Lucky dog.

It's been a great week (or more) since our last update. Just COLD !! One morning the windchill was either 0 degrees or 8 degrees, with a true temperature of 12 degrees. BRRRR! But all of us are making it and the horses are doing well too. They've been staying inside at night with their heavy blankets on and their windows shut. The cats are doing fine too, usually finding someone's hay to snuggle in. Today & yesterday finally reached above freezing for a few hours so we took advantage of that and got some riding in. Welcome to my newest student, Kim. We have lots of exciting lessons ahead of us! Welcome to the team!

Welcome to 2015! Best wishes to all of you for the upcoming year.
Making Strides Equestrian is proud to brag about 2014, it was a great year for our team. I'm hoping 2015 is just as wonderful. Be sure to look back thru our 'news posts' for 2014 at all the fun things we did and look at photos and read about all the other things. We had many new faces join us and we had tons of progress with our students. A great year!
